The 36 megawatt project is scheduled to become operational in November 2030. This latest contract adds to the US retailer’s expanding portfolio of renewable energy sources in the United Kingdom.\n\nThe company stated that the agreement brings its total investment in UK low-carbon technologies to three billion pounds. These funds have been allocated across more than 50 projects, creating a combined capacity of one gigawatt. According to independent analysis by Frontier Economics commissioned by Amazon, these initiatives supported 34,000 jobs and generated up to two billion pounds in gross value added for the UK economy between 2021 and 2025.\n\nJohn Boumphrey, Amazon UK and Ireland country manager, described the Shetland project as a continuation of years of renewable energy investment. He noted that these efforts are creating jobs and powering local communities, aligning with the company’s plan to invest 40 billion pounds in the UK by 2027. Kevin O’Donovan, Statkraft UK and Ireland country manager, said the deal provides the certainty needed to move the project forward, highlighting Shetland’s history in energy production."}
