Skin, one the UK’s biggest plastic surgery providers, with over 70 branches, collapsed. This has put hundreds of jobs in danger.
Skin’s website was replaced at 5pm on the Tuesday with a message stating that “the company has undertaken an extensive process in order to secure investment so it can continue trading, but unfortunately we have been unsuccessful”.
The statement continued: “We are sorry for any stress or inconvenience caused to our team and customers.
We are doing everything we can to alleviate the concerns of those who have been affected. We will contact all clients that still await test results as quickly as possible. The website will provide all updates as soon as they become available.
Before the site went down, the Birmingham-based firm had the “largest network of specialist dermatology clinics in the UK”.
The company was founded in 1990 and has since expanded to Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, as well as 17 clinics in London.
The company also owns brands such as Harley Medical Group, which specializes in cosmetic surgery and skin technology, and ABC Medical. Both companies’ phone lines were programmed with the same automated message.
Skin has more than 450 doctors, nurses, and medical practitioners working in England and Scotland. The company offered services ranging from wart and tattoo removal to lip filler, thread lifts and threadlifts.
The customers have been informed that their appointments are no longer going to be held.
A customer who requested anonymity said that their appointment was cancelled “out of nowhere” on Tuesday. The customer said that they had paid about PS700 in advance for a series appointments, but had not yet finished the treatment.
The person stated that “They did this without warning customers and with no communication about how to obtain a refund for the treatments they are owed.”
On Tuesday, customers calling the main office number of Skin were informed: “Unfortunately, as of July 17, The Skin Group including Skin Clinics Harley Medical Group Skin Brands Skin Experts ABC Medical has ceased to trade.”
Skin’s Instagram and X accounts, formerly Twitter accounts, appear to have closed.
In a post to Instagram, the communications firm Kendrick – which was Skin PR’s agency – wrote that they were “blindsided” with the news.
The post stated that Skin has ceased to trade and added: “At the moment, we do not have any information for the media and patients who understandably want clarity about the situation.” We have no information regarding how things are being managed by SK:N (or HMRC/debt collection), or how cancelled patient appointments/payments etc will be redressed.
We are in the same situation as many patients and staff, where several months’ worth of our own invoices have been left unpaid without explanation or redress.
Skin was contacted by the PA news agency for a comment.
