Marks & Spencer will launch a clothing-repair service.
Customers will be able to get alterations and repairs from August, as the retailer responds to an increased demand for fashion that is sustainable and reused.
It has partnered up with Sojo, an expert repair and tailoring company founded in 2021 to launch this service on its website.
The M&S Fix by Sojo hub will allow customers to book a range of services, from knitwear repair to zip replacements.
The retailer announced that repairs will begin at £5 and M&S clothing will be sent to be repaired, and then returned to the customer within 10 days.
Richard Price, M&S’s managing director for clothing and home, said, “At M&S we believe that exceptional quality products should be at the core of all we do. We want to make sure that none of our clothes go to waste.
The launch of our repair services makes it easier for our customers to recycle their clothes, whether they use our new repair service or our long-standing clothes recycling program.
Josephine Philips is the founder and CEO of Sojo. She said: “It’s been our mission at Sojo for as long as we can remember to make clothing repair mainstream and extend the lifespan of as many clothes as possible.
“I am so happy that M&S chose to launch a service for repair with us at Sojo, as it is a huge step towards this mission.
This partnership will bring simple, convenient and easy repairs to everyone.
The move coincides with what has been dubbed a “repair revolution”, as alteration apps like Sojo and The Seam are flourishing. M&S is joining a growing list of companies that offer mending in-house, including Mulberry Barbour and Uniqlo.
