SJM, the tour promoter for Coldplay and Oasis, has earned a dividend of £3.7 million.

The latest financial statements of a music tycoon who is at the heart of the Oasis tickets debacle show that he paid himself a £3.7m dividend in the past year. Simon Moran’s SJM Concerts promotes concerts for some of the biggest artists in the world when they tour the UK. It worked with Coldplay and Never Going Give You Up Star Rick Astley last year.

SJM, Moran and Ticketmaster were involved in a dispute this summer over the prices of Oasis reunion tour tickets. The “dynamic pricing” features of made it possible for ticket prices to rise well above their face value. SJM was one of the tour promoters. SJM will promote 1,845 events in 2023. It put on 2,160 shows in 2022 but its revenues increased by four percent to £286 millions because of the higher number large-capacity concerts. It made a £12 million profit.

SJM Holdings North accounts, Moran’s holding firm, which also owns Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club, showed that it paid dividends in the amount of £3.7millions to its shareholders in 2023.

Moran did not reply to a comment request. He began promoting gigs during the 1980s, while he was enrolled in a Business Studies course at the University of Sheffield. He organized a concert for The Farm – a Liverpool band – and became their manager. Later, he made his mark as a promoter of the boyband Take That. He was credited for helping the band to reform and launch its 2009 tour.

Moran, in addition to his role as the CEO of SJM (which owns the gigsandtours.com ticketing website), is also involved in a number of other businesses within music. He is also a director of Parklife Manchester and the Isle of Wight Festival, as well the Academy Music Group which owns some of the UK’s biggest music venues.

SJM Holdings North (which Moran owns in its entirety) had not paid a dividend before 2023. It paid out £32.5m between 2015 and 2017. Moran’s estimated net worth is £142 million  in 2020.

Since 2003, Manchester-based Moran owns Warrington Wolves. The Mail on Sunday reported last weekend that Moran donated £25,000 to Labour Party in advance of the July general election.
