Anchorage Digital has completed the acquisition of payments firm Routable, a move designed to extend its financial infrastructure to major global corporations. The deal allows the digital asset company to integrate high-volume payout orchestration with its existing stablecoin and fiat services. Anchorage stated in a release on Tuesday, October 6, that the acquisition addresses the complex challenge of moving money across 220 countries in the correct currency and on schedule. The company aims to provide a seamless background layer that sits between enterprise resource planning systems and global payment rails, ensuring that financial operations remain invisible to end users while maintaining reliability.

Routable, which was founded in 2017, specialises in helping businesses onboard payees, automate compliance processes, and manage large-scale global disbursements. Anchorage explained that its customer base has evolved significantly since its inception. The firm initially served crypto-native entities, followed by traditional financial institutions entering the digital asset sector. More recently, its clientele has expanded to include technology platforms and Fortune 500 companies with substantial treasury and disbursement requirements. The company noted that serving these large-scale entities requires robust fiat currency capabilities, a service now provided through the integration of Routable. This addition allows Anchorage to offer a comprehensive solution that bridges the gap between digital assets and traditional banking systems.

Nathan McCauley, co-founder and chief executive officer of Anchorage Digital, said the firm has spent nearly a decade building trust with both crypto-native firms and major financial institutions. He noted that large technology and Fortune 500 companies were expected to follow these early adopters. McCauley stated that these entities move billions of dollars daily and have previously struggled to find regulated partners capable of offering seamless services across both fiat and digital assets. With the acquisition, Anchorage positions itself as that partner. McCauley described the company’s role as an enabling infrastructure bank for the industry, serving as a regulated counterparty for institutions that do not wish to become crypto banks themselves. He added that the primary constraint on cryptocurrency banking is no longer regulatory access, but rather operational complexity, which many traditional banks are unwilling to build themselves.
