ATOME PLC, the green fertiliser developer listed on AIM, has confirmed that negotiations concerning a power purchase agreement for its Villeta project in Paraguay remain in progress. The company has stated that the Paraguayan government has expressly communicated its desire for the project to achieve success.

The power purchase agreement represents a critical component for the energy-intensive facility, as it establishes the pricing structure and contractual terms under which the project will procure electricity. Discussions with relevant counterparties regarding the specific provisions of the agreement are continuing.

ATOME has reported that its international commercial partners and financial institutions maintain their support for both the company and the project. The lending consortium includes IDB Invest, which operates as the private sector division of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, and IFC, representing the private sector arm of the World Bank Group.

Additional financial backing is being provided by the European Investment Bank, FMO (the Dutch development bank), and the Global Climate Fund, which operates under World Bank management.

The Villeta low-carbon fertiliser project has been characterised as strategically significant for Paraguay. The development is anticipated to position the nation as a fertiliser producer whilst generating thousands of employment opportunities and bolstering domestic food supply capabilities as the country’s agricultural sector undergoes expansion.

The company has indicated it expects to provide a further market update during the first part of August, subject to any material developments occurring prior to that timeframe.
