Bill Ackman a prominent figure in finance and one of Donald Trumps key supporters has urged for a 90-day pause in the ongoing trade war. This call comes amidst warnings that the global economy is heading towards what Ackman describes as an economic nuclear winter unless significant changes are made.

As the chief executive and portfolio manager at Pershing Square Capital Management Ackman highlighted in a recent post that the current trajectory of trade policies is damaging confidence in the United States as a reliable trading partner. His remarks emphasize the need for a reassessment of the massive and disproportionate tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

Ackman noted that the tariffs affect both allies and adversaries alike creating an unsettling environment for investors and businesses. He advocates for a temporary reprieve from these tariffs to allow for negotiations that could lead to a fairer trading arrangement.

His comments follow a substantial drop in shares of his investment vehicle Pershing Square Holdings which has seen declines since the announcement of new tariffs. Ackman expressed a desire for the president to reconsider the policy direction to avert further economic turmoil.

The hedge fund manager whose previous support for Trump is well-documented has shifted his stance advocating for a more strategic approach to tariffs instead of the aggressive measures currently in place. He believes the administration has an opportunity to rebuild international trust in American markets.

With uncertainty looming over trade relationships in the global arena it remains to be seen how the administration will respond to these calls for a timeout on tariffs and whether they will heed Ackmans advice for a more nuanced approach to international trade.
