Welding and coating specialist CRC Evans has opened a 90,000 square foot facility in Burnley, marking a significant step in its strategy to expand production across Europe and other international markets. The new Centre of Excellence is designed to serve as a central platform within the company’s international operating model, targeting the Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia, and South America region. This investment doubles the firm’s operational footprint and consolidates its advanced manufacturing and engineering capabilities into a single purpose-built environment.

The facility is intended to support CRC Evans’ broader business objectives, which include consolidating operations in the traditional oil and gas sector while expanding services into nuclear, renewables, defence, and aerospace. The site will also house the headquarters for the company’s critical infrastructure business stream. The layout is divided into quadrants that manage different aspects of welding, coating, and engineering processes, with contamination-controlled workflows incorporated to maintain high standards. Chief executive Mauro Piasere described the site as a scalable platform for delivering across both legacy and emerging energy and infrastructure sectors, stating that the investment strengthens the company’s leadership in specialty welding and coating.

Beyond its industrial function, the new site is expected to provide local employment opportunities, with the company hiring nearly 20 apprentices. Piasere emphasised the importance of a symbiotic relationship between corporate growth and the local community, noting that the territory must provide an environment where residents can maintain their social lives and family connections. While the company continues to serve traditional gas sectors, it is actively expanding its involvement in hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and both offshore and onshore wind sectors. The move underscores CRC Evans’ commitment to sustainable growth and regional economic development as it navigates the evolving energy landscape.
