Elon Musk SpaceX Becomes Most Valuable Asset Amid Tesla Stock Crash

Elon Musk’s extensive stake in Tesla is no longer his most valuable asset, as the electric vehicle manufacturer faces a significant decline in stock value. For the first time in five years, Musk’s stake in SpaceX, his private rockets and satellites business, has surpassed Tesla in value.

According to Forbes, Musk’s net worth remains the highest globally at an estimated $323 billion. However, his shares in SpaceX are now valued at approximately $147 billion, making them worth $20 billion more than his Tesla holdings, which have seen their value halved since December.

The decline in Tesla’s fortunes can, in part, be attributed to shifts since Donald Trump took office as United States President. Investments in Tesla have faced increasing uncertainty due to new tariff policies and Musk’s focus on his role within the Department of Government Efficiency, colloquially known as Doge. Wall Street has seen increased volatility, with Tesla suffering a 5.4 per cent drop in share value on Tuesday, while the broader S&P 500 index closed at a 1.1 per cent loss.

Short selling has intensified as a result of Tesla’s turbulence. Hedge fund managers have collectively made upwards of $16 billion on paper by betting against the automaker’s stock, according to Financial Times data. Analysts suggest Musk’s reduced involvement in Tesla’s operations has intensified concerns among shareholders since much of his time is being spent restructuring the federal government and implementing cost-saving measures.

In an interview with Fox Business, Musk admitted that balancing his business ventures with his governmental responsibilities was challenging. He noted that his focus on eliminating inefficiencies and reducing government spending had made “good progress” but acknowledged the difficulties of maintaining control over both federal restructuring and his private companies.

To combat declining sales, Musk has taken visible steps to attract attention to Tesla, including delivering vehicles to the White House. Photographs from the visit show Musk showcasing Tesla models on the driveway, with President Trump visibly impressed, referring to the cars as “beautiful” and noting their advanced technological features.

With SpaceX now emerging as Musk’s most valuable asset, the billionaire’s wealth remains largely diversified, but Tesla will need to navigate ongoing challenges to maintain investor confidence in a turbulent economic environment.
