In a significant political shift, Reform UK has surpassed Labour in national polling for the first time, securing 25 per cent of voter support according to the latest YouGov survey. The party, led by Nigel Farage, now stands one point ahead of Labour and four points clear of the Conservative Party, which has hit its lowest polling figures since departing government in July.
The data reveals a concerning trend for traditional parties, with only 60 per cent of previous Labour voters indicating continued support. The Conservative Party faces an even more challenging situation, with 24 per cent of their former voters now backing Reform UK. The polling suggests a particularly strong performance in traditional Conservative heartlands, with Reform UK capturing 46 per cent of Leave voters compared to the Conservatives’ 30 per cent.
Regional analysis demonstrates Reform UK’s particular strength in the North and Midlands, securing 33 per cent support in the latter. The party’s appeal is notably stronger among male voters at 29 per cent and working-class demographics, where it leads with 30 per cent support. These figures position Reform UK comfortably ahead of both Conservative and Labour parties in these crucial demographic segments.
The leadership popularity metrics present additional challenges for established parties. Conservative leadership hopeful Kemi Badenoch’s net favourability has declined to minus 29, while Farage’s rating has improved to minus 27. Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer trails both at minus 36, indicating widespread voter dissatisfaction with traditional party leadership.
The possibility of a Conservative-Reform merger has gained traction, with 43 per cent of current Conservative supporters favouring such a move. This potential realignment of right-wing politics could fundamentally reshape the British political landscape ahead of upcoming local elections in May.
