Sintana Energy Inc has announced that the exploration timeline for its offshore Uruguay assets has been extended by 12 months, whilst developments in Argentina have moved the company closer to a formal international tender for an offshore licensing opportunity.

The Uruguayan state energy company and regulator ANCAP has approved a suspension of the initial exploration phase for the AREA OFF-1 block, extending the deadline to 23 August 2027. The decision followed a request from operator Chevron, which cited delays in securing environmental clearance for a planned 3D seismic programme.

The initial seismic acquisition phase was completed before the end of April, with a second phase scheduled to commence during the fourth quarter of 2026. Sintana has indicated that the complete dataset must be acquired, processed and interpreted prior to making an informed decision regarding exploratory drilling activities.

In a separate development, the Argentine government has directed its National Secretariat of Energy to launch an international public tender for the CAN-200 area within the North Argentine Basin. This action follows an expression of interest submitted in February 2025 by Challenger Energy, a group company of Sintana, and represents a prerequisite step towards the potential award of an exploration permit.

The extension in Uruguay provides additional time for comprehensive geological analysis, whilst the Argentine tender process marks tangible progress in the company’s regional expansion strategy. Both jurisdictions represent significant offshore opportunities within South American basins that have attracted increasing industry attention.

Sintana Energy maintains listings on the TSX Venture Exchange, OTCQB, Frankfurt Stock Exchange and AIM, reflecting its multi-market investor base and international operational focus.
