A new prediction market platform named CRSHMARKET has launched, allowing users to place wagers on events occurring within live video streams. The service targets content from platforms such as Twitch and Kick, enabling gamblers to bet on specific outcomes in real time. The company described the offering as a novel market that had not previously existed, citing examples such as whether an Uber arrives within two minutes or if a streamer successfully obtains a phone number. The platform’s promotional material on social media recently gained significant traction, highlighting its ability to monetise virtually any live event.
The launch has drawn sharp criticism regarding the potential for market manipulation. Commenters on social media expressed alarm over the likelihood of widespread insider trading and money laundering, with one user describing the situation as producing biblical levels of such activity. In response to these accusations, the company stated that the issue was covered, though it provided no specific details on the safeguards implemented. Critics argue that preventing livestreamers from fabricating events or sharing advance information with associates is a significant challenge. This concern is amplified by existing issues on established prediction market platforms, where government and military insiders have been implicated in illegal profiting from non-public information. The lower stakes of livestream betting may make such irregularities less likely to be detected or scrutinised.
The operational legitimacy of CRSHMARKET remains a subject of debate, as it has received limited mainstream media coverage prior to its recent viral marketing campaign. The platform’s chief executive and co-founder, Evan Rama, is also associated with KupidTV, a live college dating show. According to the student-run newspaper The Mercury at the University of Texas, Dallas, KupidTV is currently facing a lawsuit alleging it launched a bot attack against a competitor that declined a buyout offer. Rama announced in April that KupidTV had rebranded to CRSHMARKET. More recently, Rama claimed on LinkedIn that the platform had surpassed ten million dollars in trading volume within 45 days of its launch. He subsequently posted on X that his team had mastered virality following the spread of the promotional video.
