Bot-detection firm Spur secures $200m investment

Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity company based in Lake Mary, Florida, has successfully raised two hundred million dollars from Insight Partners for its latest funding round. The venture was led by the private equity giant to support the growth of this artificial intelligence security specialist.

Established in 2017 by former Defence Department engineers, Spur developed technology capable of distinguishing genuine human activity from sophisticated bot traffic five years before large language models became public. As criminal VPNs and residential proxy networks proliferate, organisations face a critical blind spot where they can observe online activity without understanding the underlying infrastructure.

Detecting malicious internet traffic has long been a challenge for corporate security teams, yet current threats have intensified significantly. According to Cloudflare reports from mid-2026, bots are now more active on the internet than humans. Matthew Prince, founder and chief executive of Cloudflare, noted that agentic traffic is growing so rapidly that artificial agents surpassed human online presence for the first time in history.
