Microsoft sets October date for next major Windows and Surface event

Microsoft has scheduled a significant event for 7 October in San Francisco to discuss the future of its Windows and Surface product lines. The company stated that the gathering will feature a conversation on how local artificial intelligence will shape the next chapter of the personal computer. This announcement marks the first major Windows event in more than two years, following a previous showcase in May 2024 that introduced new Arm-based Copilot Plus PCs and a renewed partnership with Qualcomm.

Satya Nadella, the chief executive officer, is expected to attend the session alongside Pavan Davuluri, who leads the Windows and Surface division. Jensen Huang, the chief executive of Nvidia, will also appear at the event. His participation suggests that RTX Spark PCs could be a central focus, potentially leading to further details regarding the pricing and availability of the Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra.

Analysts anticipate that Microsoft will highlight ongoing quality improvements to the Windows operating system and outline upcoming developments. However, there are no expectations for a surprise announcement of Windows 12. The last major Windows event prior to 2024 took place in June 2021, when the company unveiled Windows 11 during a live stream.
