Monzo confirms resolution of card payment and transfer outage

Monzo has confirmed that a technical disruption affecting card payments and bank transfers has been fully resolved. The digital bank stated that all services are now back up and running, apologising for the inconvenience and thanking customers for their patience during the period of instability.

The issue initially prompted the activation of a backup service known as Monzo Stand-in. This alternative system was designed to allow customers to continue making card payments, withdrawing cash, freezing cards and sending or receiving transfers. Despite these measures, some users reported that the backup functionality did not work as expected, with several individuals on social media noting that they remained unable to use their cards or complete transactions.

Monzo was established in 2015 as a branchless institution focused on a mobile-first banking experience. The company currently serves more than 16 million personal and business customers globally. While the primary outage has been addressed, the earlier reliance on the stand-in service highlighted varying levels of access for different users before the full restoration of standard banking operations.
