A collective of software engineers who state they were dismissed due to artificial intelligence adoption have developed a system intended to replicate the functions of a chief executive officer. The project, named OpenExecutive, is described by the creators as a tool designed to perform the duties of a senior leadership team. The initiative is framed as a direct response to the use of automation to reduce workforce headcount in their previous roles.
The system is constructed using multiple models from Anthropic, with Claude Sonnet 4.6 serving as the default engine. More advanced reasoning tasks are allocated to Claude Opus 4.7. The architecture recruits eight distinct artificial intelligence agents, each configured to act as a specific top level executive. These roles include chief strategy officer, chief financial officer, and head of human resources. Together, these agents form a unified executive persona that functions as a single decision making entity.
The developers describe the tool as a senior advisor possessing high level business knowledge. A demonstration video highlights the system’s capability to operate continuously, noting that leadership does not scale with round the clock work. The software is capable of learning from internal company documents and retains a memory of previous recommendations and decisions. The project is released as open source, allowing users to inspect and interact with the system directly.
While the tool aims to emulate executive decision making, it does not address the human elements of corporate accountability. The creators suggest that if automation can perform executive tasks more efficiently than human leaders, the logic used to justify replacing employees with AI should also apply to the replacement of the executives themselves. This perspective contrasts with reports that Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg is developing an artificial intelligence agent to assist in his own role. He is also reportedly creating a photorealistic digital clone to maintain a constant virtual presence within the company.
