PLC Resources has commenced a two-stage satellite geo-spectral survey across its Abbotts Gold Project in the Murchison region of Western Australia. The initiative covers a project area spanning approximately 205 square kilometres, which encompasses four tenements held by the company. The survey is being conducted by Geo Spectra with the objective of mapping alteration minerals and geological structures that may be associated with orogenic gold mineralisation.
The first stage of the programme involves regional screening using hyperspectral EnMAP imagery alongside multispectral ASTER and Sentinel-2 satellite data. This phase is designed to identify minerals and structural features across the project site and an additional 300 square kilometres of surrounding land. Key targets for this initial mapping include iron oxides, clay minerals, sulphates, silicification, and fine-scale structural controls. The utilisation of digital elevation models and high-resolution data will support the identification of faults and shears that may potentially control mineralisation.
Following the initial screening, the second stage will employ high-resolution WorldView-3 satellite imagery to further investigate areas identified during the first phase. This stage will provide data at up to 31 centimetres resolution, focusing on refining and ranking specific targets. The company expects to receive results, including a prioritised target map, within four to six weeks. Executive director Simon Phillips stated that the survey provides a project-wide view of Abbotts that cannot be achieved from ground-based methods alone. He noted that combining this data with recent airborne magnetic success, previous high-grade soil sampling, and upcoming drilling results at Rochefort will allow future field and air core drilling programmes to be focused on the strongest targets.
The survey builds upon previous work at Abbotts, including a high-resolution airborne magnetic survey and recent reverse circulation drilling at the Rochefort Gold Prospect, for which assay results are currently pending. PLC Resources stated that integrating the new survey data with existing geological, geophysical, and geochemical information will assist in ranking targets for future fieldwork and air core drilling. The company plans to focus subsequent exploration on areas showing the strongest mineral alteration and structural features, with several programmes of work already approved for follow-up drilling once all results have been fully analysed.
