
The United Kingdom’s automotive industry is set to receive nearly £130 million in state investment aimed at developing new zero emission technologies and securing skilled employment across the nation. This financial support, administered through the nations modern industrial strategy, targets over 1,800 direct roles within manufacturing firms while generating thousands of additional positions throughout the wider supply chain operating nationwide.
Automotive enterprises and research partners have been granted almost £50 million specifically to construct and manufacture zero emission vehicle technologies at scale. Officials state that this allocation is designed to stimulate economic expansion whilst reducing costs for electric vehicles available to consumers. The current funding package forms part of the DRIVE35 programme, representing the most significant government investment in the car industry since the Second World War, with a total pledge of £4 billion extending through 2035.
This initiative reinforces the administration’s objective to reindustrialise every region and support British innovation so companies can succeed across the whole country. The North East and West Midlands are highlighted as powerhouse regions for automotive production where this money will assist flagship manufacturers including Turntide Technologies and Bentley. Awards from the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade flow through the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK in partnership with Innovate UK.
