SpaceAM, a Gloucestershire-based aerospace and defence technology startup, has completed a seed funding round. The investment was led by Foresight Group alongside government-backed defence innovation funding. The company is focused on developing ultra-lightweight autonomous sensing systems intended for operation in contested and extreme environments. These sensor devices are designed to collect critical data in scenarios where conventional systems are considered too heavy or costly to deploy effectively.
The new capital injection follows a recent multi-million pound contract secured with the UK Ministry of Defence. The agreement aims to boost rapid procurement and deliver cutting-edge technology for the UK Armed Forces. With the additional backing from Foresight, SpaceAM stated it will be supported in developing its product range, strengthening its governance structures, and preparing for its next phase of growth. The company emphasised that the funding provides not only the capital required for development but also the structural support necessary to begin scaling operations.
Chris Isaac, founder and chief executive of SpaceAM, noted that the company has always recognised the value in its approach to autonomous sensor systems. He highlighted the synergy between hardware, software and artificial intelligence, all of which are developed in-house within the UK. Isaac added that having Foresight on board sends a clear signal to the market that the company is preparing for a Series A round to scale at pace. The raise also follows SpaceAM’s selection as one of 13 scaleups supported under the UK’s Defence Unicorn initiative.
Rubina Singh, investment director at Foresight Group, commented that SpaceAM has developed a differentiated sovereign autonomous sensing technology platform. She stated that the technology addresses increasingly important needs across defence and security markets, with further applications across many other industries. Singh also noted that the team has made strong progress in a short period, demonstrating an ability to translate technical innovation rapidly into customer engagement and contract wins at an early stage.
