OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 with interactive visual interface

OpenAI has introduced a new user interface for ChatGPT that allows the model to deliver responses incorporating text, visuals and interactive elements. The company announced the update on Wednesday, October 7, stating that the new Intelligent UI is integrated into GPT-6, a model currently being rolled out to various subscription tiers.

The release of GPT-6 began on Wednesday for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, with availability extending to Free and Go tiers on Thursday, October 8. Under the Intelligent UI framework, ChatGPT can now generate graphics, tappable buttons, forms and charts within its answers. The company noted that potential interactive experiences include tools such as a calculator, a bill splitter and games. OpenAI explained that the format of the response depends on the user’s query, with comparisons potentially presented side by side and explanations aided by interactive diagrams, while simple text remains an option where most useful.

Beyond the visual interface, GPT-6 introduces the ability to begin answering while the model continues to think. This feature is designed to deliver answers faster without sacrificing the cohesion of responses that are written all at once. The update also enhances the model’s performance on questions requiring web searches. OpenAI stated that GPT-6 is better at deciding when to look up information and is more reliable in finding supporting data for its answers.

The company described the Intelligent UI as a step toward a ChatGPT that can shape an interface around the user’s specific goals. OpenAI expressed a long-term aim for the platform to create more of the interfaces people need for everyday tasks, allowing users to describe what they want to accomplish and work with an experience built around it. The company reported that more than 1.2 billion people now use ChatGPT each week.

Recent developments for the platform include an announcement on Monday, October 5, that advertisements within ChatGPT will become more visual and measurable. Additionally, on Thursday, October 1, the company added a virtual try-on feature to the service.
