Quantum Helium receives operatorship approval for Colorado projects advancing production testing phase

Quantum Helium Limited has secured regulatory approval from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to assume operatorship of its Sagebrush Project in Colorado, representing a significant advancement in the company’s development strategy. The approval enables the firm to progress toward extended production testing at what management characterises as a key asset within its helium portfolio.

Chief Executive Howard McLaughlin stated that Quantum holds prospective helium resources exceeding one billion cubic feet across its Sagebrush and Coyote Wash projects combined. The operatorship approval follows a comprehensive engagement process with regulatory authorities and relevant stakeholders, including direct meetings with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and pertinent regulators during a recent company visit to Colorado.

With operatorship now in place, Quantum is preparing to mobilise for an extended production test at the Sagebrush-1 well. The test programme, anticipated to span several weeks, aims to evaluate flow rates and establish commercial deliverability from the asset. Historical data from the well indicates non-combustible gas encounters with helium concentrations of approximately 2.76 per cent within the Leadville Formation, providing technical validation of the project’s helium potential.

Management views the upcoming production test as a critical near-term milestone that could support the conversion of existing helium resources into reserves, a necessary step toward commercial development. The company has completed planning and procurement of long-lead equipment, positioning it to proceed efficiently into the testing phase following receipt of regulatory clearance.

The Sagebrush Project represents a material component of Quantum’s helium exploration and development strategy in Colorado. Helium remains a critical industrial gas with applications across healthcare, electronics, aerospace and research sectors, with supply dynamics often characterised by structural tightness due to limited production sources and technical challenges associated with extraction and processing.
