Rockfire Resources PLC has drawn attention to the strategic value of its Molaoi project in Greece, with chief executive David Price emphasising the deposit’s growing significance within Europe’s critical minerals supply chain. Whilst the asset remains primarily a zinc project, the company has begun to shift focus towards the germanium content within the deposit, recognising its enhanced commercial and strategic potential.

Price characterised germanium as a valuable byproduct at present, underscoring its essential role in semiconductor manufacturing, automotive technology applications and military systems. The metal’s importance has risen considerably as European nations seek to secure domestic sources of critical minerals and reduce dependence on external suppliers.

The operational environment in Greece presents distinct advantages, according to Price. He described the jurisdiction as both safe and supportive of mining activities, with established expertise in underground mining operations. This combination of regulatory stability and technical capability positions Rockfire favourably as Europe intensifies efforts to develop indigenous supplies of strategically important materials.

Price expressed confidence in the company’s positioning to meet European germanium demand, stating that Rockfire is well placed to become a significant regional supplier. Recent drilling activity at Molaoi has yielded encouraging results. Holes HMO-015, HMO-016 and HMO-017 returned robust zinc, silver and germanium mineralisation, demonstrating both strong grades and continuity across the mineralised system. The ongoing drilling programme aims to upgrade the resource classification from inferred to indicated status, a necessary step towards advancing the project through feasibility assessment.

Looking ahead, Price outlined several near-term catalysts for the company. These include the release of additional assay results from the current drilling campaign, progression towards feasibility studies and the acquisition of a company-owned drill rig to enhance operational flexibility and reduce dependency on contracted equipment.
