Rolls Royce Launches £3 Million Electric Nightingale for Exclusive Buyers

Rolls Royce Motor Cars has unveiled its electric hypercar, the Nightingale, priced at £3 million, targeting an elite group of 100 buyers. This move signifies a strategic shift for the luxury marque, which has historically focused on power and performance, as it adapts to changing market dynamics.

Named after Le Rossignol, the Cote d’Azur getaway of co-founder Sir Henry Royce, the Nightingale represents a blend of heritage and modernity. The vehicle is tailored for wealthy collectors, echoing the Art Deco style that defines some of the brand’s historical models, such as the 16EX and 17EX. The Nightingale is expected to reach nearly six metres in length, featuring Rolls Royce’s iconic Pantheon grille and a two-seater soft top cockpit.

While Rolls Royce has faced challenges in shifting its clientele towards electric vehicles, the launch of the Nightingale illustrates a commitment to bespoke manufacturing and limited-edition luxury. The company has recently stated that it would no longer pursue a goal of entirely becoming a zero-emission manufacturer by 2030, reflecting customer preferences that lean towards traditional combustion engines.

This latest initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance exclusivity, as Rolls Royce aims to reduce production volumes while increasing profit margins through customisation. Potential buyers of the Nightingale must be invited to apply, ensuring that the ownership remains within a very exclusive circle.

The Nightingale is part of Project Nightingale, which aims to revitalise bespoke manufacturing at Rolls Royce. The company is doubling its manufacturing footprint in Sussex, at a cost of £300 million, not to increase output but to improve the quality and craftsmanship of its vehicles.

Deliveries of the Nightingale are expected to begin in 2028, allowing for further anticipation among prospective clients. This model exemplifies Rolls Royce’s ambition to balance traditional luxury with innovative, sustainable technologies, thus shaping the future of high-end automotive engineering.
