UK tech sector sees 43% weekly rise in funding to £368m across ten deals

The United Kingdom technology sector recorded a significant surge in investment activity this week, with total funding reaching £368.52 million. This figure represents a forty-three per cent increase on the previous week’s totals and was distributed across ten distinct funding rounds between 10 August and 14 August. The capital influx highlights continued investor confidence in diverse areas of the British tech ecosystem, ranging from aerospace and defence to artificial intelligence infrastructure and sustainable resource management.

Cambridge Aerospace, an autonomous air defence systems manufacturer established in 2024, secured backing from a consortium including DFJ Growth, Lux Capital, Accel, Lakestar, Never Lift, Ora Global and Elad Gil & Co. In the aviation sector, Vertical Aerospace, which develops zero-emission electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, attracted investment from Mudrick Capital Management, Yorkville Advisors Global alongside existing and new equity investors. The biotechnology landscape saw Mironid, a developer of small molecule therapeutics for kidney disease, receive funds from the Scottish National Investment Bank, Roche Venture Fund, Epidarex Capital, Sofinnova Partners, BioGeneration Ventures and the University of Strathclyde.

Cybersecurity and artificial intelligence firms also featured prominently in this week’s deals. Mindgard, which provides automated offensive security platforms for enterprise AI models, raised capital from Album VC, Karma Ventures, .406 Ventures, Atlantic Bridge, IQ Capital and Lakestar. Cytix, a platform that monitors code generated by AI assistants, secured investment from Northern Gritstone, Auriga Cyber Ventures and NPIF II – PXN Equity Finance. Meanwhile, Edgify, which offers distributed edge-computing infrastructure for retail shrinkage prevention, received backing from Rank Ventures and Mangrove Capital Partners.

Sustainability-focused ventures captured substantial attention, with Watercycle Technologies developing mineral recovery membranes for lithium extraction backed by the UK Government’s DRIVE35 Scale Up Fund via Innovate UK and the Advanced Propulsion Centre. Metal Morph, which recovers treatment chemicals from wastewater, attracted Sustainable Ventures, Green Angel Ventures and Ofwat. Additionally, MatAlytics, a provider of physics-informed AI software for steel component analysis, secured funding. FlairMakers, a talent marketplace for the hospitality industry founded in 2024, also completed a funding round, rounding out a diverse portfolio of investments across defence, health, security and green technology sectors.
