Thalia Therapeutics plc (AIM:THAT), the AIM-listed RNA therapeutics developer, has confirmed that its proposed acquisition of Sanmirna Therapeutics and an oversubscribed £2.75 million fundraising represent a transformational milestone for the company. Shareholders are scheduled to vote on the transaction at the annual general meeting taking place on Friday morning in London.
Chief executive Dr David Solomon outlined to investors that the transaction would accelerate Thalia’s progression into a clinical-stage biotechnology enterprise whilst substantially enhancing its RNA therapeutics pipeline. Subject to shareholder approval at the AGM, the acquisition will introduce miRisten to Thalia’s portfolio, a Phase 1 clinical-stage microRNA therapeutic targeting acute myeloid leukaemia.
The addition of miRisten will complement the company’s existing proprietary Nuvec delivery technology and its dual-targeting cardiovascular siRNA programme. Dr Solomon characterised the resulting portfolio as diversified, addressing multi-billion-dollar global markets in both oncology and cardiovascular disease.
Topline data from the Phase 1 miRisten study are anticipated during the first half of 2027, ahead of preparations for Phase 2 trials. The clinical trial remains active, although patient enrolment has been temporarily paused to allow the current cohort to progress through the study protocol.
Dr Solomon confirmed that funding has been secured for planned work across the portfolio, including completion of the miRisten trial. The company’s immediate priorities following completion of the acquisition include integrating Sanmirna’s operations, advancing the cardiovascular programme towards IND-enabling studies, and continuing development of Nuvec as a differentiated RNA delivery platform.
The chief executive stated that Thalia is entering an exciting new phase of development, with the board focused on delivering several important value-creating milestones in the coming months.
