The newly appointed FBI Director, Kash Patel, has instructed agency employees to disregard an unprecedented email request from the Trump administration demanding staff list their weekly accomplishments. The directive, orchestrated by tech magnate Elon Musk, has created significant disruption across federal organisations.

The controversial mandate gave approximately 800,000 federal workers a mere 48-hour window to itemise their achievements to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). This unorthodox approach has triggered widespread uncertainty within critical government institutions, prompting the FBI to seek counsel from the Department of Justice regarding appropriate next steps.

Musk, who has been appointed to streamline government expenditure during Trump’s second term, made the announcement via his social media platform X, stating that non-compliance would be interpreted as resignation. The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) has responded with sharp criticism.
